How Common Is It?
Alzheimer disease currently affects an estimated 2.4 million to 4.5 million Americans, and in 2010, there were between 21 and 35 million people worldwide with AD. It affects about 6% of people 65 years and older, but since the risk of developing Alzheimer disease increases with age and more people are living longer, the number of people with this disease is expected to increase significantly in coming decades.
